A/Prof Cris Cuthbertson performs a broad range of general and laparoscopic surgeries, including breast and endocrine procedures. She is highly skilled and known for her compassionate care.
2026 marks Cris' 10th year of practicing surgery in Bendigo, after moving from United Mission Hospital in Tansen, Nepal.
She maintains a busy practice in General, Breast and Endocrine surgery with regular operating lists at St John of God Hospital and Bendigo Health.
Cris also works as Surgical Academic lead at Monash University School of Rural Health, and has recently completed a Masters Degree in Surgical Education. Her research for her Masters is "Surgical Empathy" – a topic she is passionate about.

Dr Tulip Chowdhury

Dr. Tulip Chowdhury is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) who earned her MBBS in Bangladesh in 2002. After working in Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, she relocated to Australia in 2007 to complete her specialist general surgical training in Melbourne. She then undertook a year-long fellowship at Bendigo Hospital, gaining extensive experience in elective and emergency surgery.
Over the past five years, Dr. Chowdhury has contributed her skills to the public sector, working with Bendigo Health and Echuca Regional Health. She is dedicated to providing the best care possible to every patient, emphasizing the importance of good communication with patients and their general practitioners throughout the surgical journey.

Dr Arty (Arthavan) Surendran

Dr Arty Surendran is a General Surgeon who brings fresh expertise and a strong commitment to regional healthcare to Golden City Surgical.
He completed his surgical training at Western Health in Melbourne, before undertaking a sub-speciality Colorectal Fellowship at Cabrini and Alfred Health, focusing on the management of both benign and malignant colorectal conditions. He transitioned to Bendigo Health as the General Surgical Fellow in 2025, and is now working at Bendigo Health and Echuca Regional Health as a consultant General Surgeon.
Arty is actively involved in teaching medical students and surgical trainees, and maintains an interest in quality improvement and clinical research. His training across both metropolitan and regional settings has prepared him well to deliver comprehensive surgical care to the Bendigo community.

Mr Matt Oliver

Mr Oliver is a (mostly) retired General Surgeon who has worked in Africa, UK and Australia dealing with a wide range of general surgical problems.
During his career Matt has collected a wealth of knowledge and experience and has always been actively involved in teaching and mentoring. We are very lucky to have him around to share his insight, care and support to the team.
Current Practice
Mr Oliver is not accepting new referrals. He currently restricts his practice to providing public patients colonoscopes and gastroscopes at Bendigo Day Surgery. He sees these patients post-operatively in his rooms at Golden City Surgical.
Matt is a founding member of Breast Surgeons of Australia & NZ, and accredited for gastroscopy and colonoscopy with Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

For patients wanting an appointment:
Because Golden City Surgical is a specialist practice, all patients will need a referral from another Doctor to make an appointment and receive their medicare benefit back from the government.
A referral from your General Practitioner (GP) will usually be valid for 12 months. In special circumstances your GP might agree to offer you an indefinite referral.
Referrals from another specialist Doctor are only valid for 3 months. After your first visit we may ask you to see your GP for a new referral so that you can come back and see us again.
If you already have a referral, please call us on 03 5407 2228, and we will arrange to make you an appointment.
